June 17, 2025
Jonesboro — Josh Longmire has announced his campaign for Arkansas House District 30, which includes portions of Craighead, Greene, and Lawrence counties. Longmire seeks to succeed Representative Fran Cavenaugh, who announced her retirement from the State Legislature this week.
A native of Lawrence County, Longmire is a Christian, father, and husband, and has served as a Craighead County Justice of the Peace for over a decade. He is Chair of the Quorum Court Finance Committee. Additionally, he is a Board Member of Craighead County Ducks Unlimited and a Member of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as the Association of Iron and Steel Technology.
“I have a proven record of cutting government waste and standing up for our shared values,” said Longmire. “Voters can count on me to continue that work at our State Capitol.”
A longtime Republican, Longmire was elected at the age of eighteen as Chairman of the Lawrence County Republican Committee and was the Republican member of the Lawrence County Election Commission. Today, he is a member of the Craighead County Republican Committee.
As a Craighead County Justice of the Peace, Longmire oversees the county’s operating budget of $71 million. He managed to cut wasteful spending by all departments to reduce their budgets by 5% within his first two terms on the court. Longmire has also streamlined the judicial process, improved government efficiency, and created job growth. “I will fight for our district by advocating for our agriculture community, expanding our economy, shrinking the size of government, and being accountable to voters by showing responsibility with your tax dollars.”
When asked about the retirement of current Representative Fran Cavenaugh, Longmire said “Fran has served Northeast Arkansas with integrity and grace, and I’m grateful for her service. An unwavering conservative, she has fought to lower our taxes, protect the sanctity of life, defend our Second Amendment rights, improve education, and promote government transparency. I promise to represent our region with the same respect for our values and vote with principle.” Longmire lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Jennifer, son, Jackson, and dog, Lilly. He is a member of the First Church of Jonesboro. In Longmire’s free time, he coaches youth sports and enjoys hunting and watersports at Norfolk Lake.
